A recent study conducted by researchers at Shantau University Medical College in China found that one thing that can help people recover from depression is sexual activities. The study analyzed data from 15,794 American adults between 20 and 59 years of age. According to findings, individuals who are engaged in sexual activity once or twice a week have less chances of appearing symptoms of depression.
Scientists believe that the natural release of hormones such as endorphins and dopamines can be credited during sexual activity to improve mood. Endorphins and dopamine hormones are known to promote feelings of happiness, engagement and stress. The increase in mental health was found to be particularly notable among the participants of the age of 20 to 30 years.

Professor Mutong Chen, co-writer of the study, emphasized that sexual activities play an important role in overall health and quality of life. He said that it is not only about physical pleasure, but also about the emotional and psychological benefits from it.
Regular exercise, healthy diet, adequate sleep and social support are important to avoid depression. Techniques like yoga and meditation can be helpful for stress management.
