
Eating foods rich in flavonoids such as tea, berry, dark chocolate and apples can help you live longer by reducing the risk of serious health conditions. According to a recent study published in Nature Food, consuming a diverse category of flavonoid -rich foods can reduce the risk of development of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and neurological diseases.
The study was led by a team of researchers from Queen’s University Belfast, Edith Kovan University Perth (ECU), and Medical University of Vienna and Universatet Vienne.
Conclusions show that increasing the variety of flavonoids in your diet can help prevent the development of health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease (CVD), cancer and neurological diseases.
Main conclusion of studies
Decreased mortality: The daily intake of 500 mg of flavonoids equal to about two cups of tea was associated with 16% less risk of death rate due to all reasons.
cardiovascular health: Consumption of flavonoids reduced the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and respiratory disease by 10%.
Variety matters: Instead of being dependent on the same source, eating different types of flavonoids can be more health benefits.
