We have often heard about which foods are good or bad for us. For example, eggs were once considered unhealthy because they raise cholesterol, but now we know they are a good source of protein. Coffee was also considered bad for us, but it has some health benefits. Even chocolate can be good for us in small quantities. Nutritionist Nmami Agarwal agrees with this. In her latest video posted on Instagram, she declares that there is no food that is good or bad for us. It just becomes bad when eaten in the wrong way. “We often hear about foods that are labelled ‘good’ or ‘bad’. As a nutritionist, I want to challenge that thinking. All foods can have a place in a healthy diet. It’s all about balance, variety and portion control,” the nutritionist said.
Nutritionist tells about four such foods, which should be consumed less
Do not consume too much of hot ghee
Ghee is often called a superfood because it is rich in nutrients. But nutritionists said that too much of any good thing can be harmful. Heating ghee too much can cause unhealthy compounds to form in it. So, use a spoonful of ghee to make your food tasty, but avoid deep-frying it. To get its benefits, consume ghee in limited quantities.
Eat less rice
Rice is a great source of energy and is used in many diets. According to nutritionists, you don’t have to give it up completely. Just make sure to balance protein and fiber in your diet to avoid a spike in blood sugar. Rice is “okay as a side option, but don’t overdo it as a staple.”
Pickles
Indian pickles are loaded with probiotics and antioxidants, making them a superfood. But Nuti says their pungent flavour means they are high in sodium. So, use them in small quantities to add flavour and don’t overdo it. A little pickle with rice or roti can really do the trick.
Coconut
Nutritionists say that coconut is the best source of healthy fats and MCTs. It is rich in nutrients, but it is also high in calories. So, enjoy coconut as part of a balanced diet and eat it in moderation.
Ultimately, nutritionists say the goal is to enjoy your food without guilt or restriction. “A balanced diet includes a variety of foods from all the food groups,” she says. “If you’re unsure about what to eat or how much to eat, consider consulting a registered dietitian. They can provide personalized guidance based on your specific needs and goals.”
