Nipah virus symptoms
The scope of infection of this virus is very large. Its symptoms can range from a common cold to a life-threatening condition.
– Initial symptoms- At the beginning of infection, the person has complaints like high fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting and sore throat.
– Respiratory problems- In some patients, this virus causes atypical pneumonia, which can cause difficulty in breathing.
– Effect on the brain- As the infection progresses, the patient starts feeling dizziness, lethargy and mental confusion. In severe cases, it takes the form of ‘acute encephalitis’ i.e. swelling in the brain.
-final state- In severe cases, the patient starts having seizures and can go into coma within 24 to 48 hours.
-Remember- The ‘incubation period’ of Nipah virus, i.e. the time from infection to the appearance of symptoms, is usually 4 to 14 days, but in some cases it has been observed to be 45 days.
What to do for protection?
Regular cleaning of hands is very important. Therefore, wash hands with soap and water.
Whenever you consume fruits, wash them thoroughly and consume them only when they are peeled. Do not eat fruits fallen on the ground or gnawed by birds.
– If cases of infection are increasing rapidly in your area, then maintain distance from infected persons.
– Use mask and gloves while going to crowded areas or hospital.
What not to do?
– Do not drink raw palm juice because bats often leave their saliva in it.
– If you see symptoms of the disease, do not become a doctor yourself, get yourself treated immediately in the nearest hospital.
– Avoid going near people who are infected with Nipah virus.
